The Planning Committee is responsible for making comments and recommendations to the Wiltshire Council Planning Authority on behalf of the Parish Council on all Planning Applications within the parish but it is Wiltshire Council who makes the final decisions on all applications.
This committee also considers any matters relating to conservation and the environment in general. The committee has delegated powers to make comments on the applications and notify these to Wiltshire Council without ratification by the Full Council. It has to be borne in mind that Box lays within the Area of Outstanding Beauty which restricts much ‘new build’ within the area.
In 2018/19 the Neighbourhood Plan was derived. This is a joint effort with parishioners and the parish council. The aim is to bring together a plan to shape the future of the village in the way parishioners’ want. This plan will take 2/3 years to complete.
Notwithstanding all of this the committee also plays custodian to the Blind House, the Pound, the Fountain, Viewing Platform and bus shelters. The War Memorial forms part of the assets managed by the Cemetery committee.
